My Food Journey to Good Health Month 2

Well February flew, and its hard to believe that we’re in March already, it only seems a blink of an eye since we brought in the New Year! My weight loss plan continues though!

I found that January was an easy month in which to watch my weight, because it seemed like everybody was on some diet plan or health kick – Dry January  and Low Carbs both seemed very popular options amongst my friends, and there’s definitely safety in numbers when watching your food intake.

However, February has been harder, especially when socialising; Dry January has long gone and resolve seems to have universally slipped. So I am very pleased that somehow I have managed to keep my head in the right space, and stick to my Sustainable Eating Plan, (I call this StEP for short, and because it is all the single, little steps that will get me to my goal in the end!)

I am still cooking from scratch and making delicious, nutritious food – I am posting Recipe Blogs on a Monday of some of the things we’ve eaten and loved.

I say we, because my hubby is also still joining in, although he does slip on a weekly basis when it comes to Red Wine! However, much to his delight and my annoyance, he still seems to lose weight regularly – men can be so lucky, (and equally irritating), at times!

I have managed to stick to the StEP completely, all bar one night when we went away as a family to The Fontmell in Dorset – you can read all about that HERE . As it was a special occasion I allowed myself to enjoy some wine with dinner, but stuck to the food guidelines of nothing processed, no refined carbs etc, plus I had been on a longer than intended walk, so felt that the wine was completely justified!

Despite only going slightly ‘off piste’ that weekend, I did go up in weight and it took 3 days to get back to where I was, but I am really pleased with myself for going back to the StEP, previously I most likely would have given up and gone back to old, engrained eating habits, and blown all my good work so far.

I wish I knew what it was that gets your head in the right frame of mind for sticking to a diet – I’d bottle it and make a fortune! Just how do you get that sense of determination that sees you through to the end? I know that for me a positive mindset is the key to success – if your head is in the right place it works – your thinking definitely informs your doing.

I know that I have been building up to sorting out my eating and health for a long time, working out what to do, and the reasons for doing it, and this helps me focus on the long term goal. In all my thought processes during the build up to starting this good health journey, I have been realistic in how long it might take; so for me this helps, I have already resolved in my mind that the whole of 2018 is going to be about getting to my goal, and also once I actually get to the destination that I have a plan for staying there!

Stickability is what I need to make myself healthier! My mind is made up and my body will just have to do as its told! I really hope this positivity lasts………………
